Frontrunner’s January 2008 meeting was held at the Horse and Hound Restaurant in Ocala, starting with a visit to Clarence Gordy’s Camellia Gardens. Gordy has the largest camellia plantings in the area. Ed Bravo presented a wrap-up on Frontrunner’s participation in and support of the construction of the Noel Lake Pavilion at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. This project was voted on and approved by Frontrunners for a total donation of $10,000. Thanks, Ed. And thanks Frontrunners for your approval.

State Level: TPIE was yet another success. More total attendees than ever, including those from the US and from foreign countries. Bill Copenhaver will present his view of this trade show at this month’s meeting.

Chapter Level: This month’s meeting will be held at CFCC. Horticulture instructor, Bob Dumond, will use a panel of growers to discuss how they scout (IPM) at their respective nurseries. Q&A time will follow. David Holmes, director of the Marion County Agriculture Center, will present a short request to the Frontrunners for support of the Marion County Agricultural Hall of Fame. Bob Dumond will update us on the horticultural program at CFCC. There will be a short board of directors meeting covering the plant auction at Kanapaha’s Spring Garden Festival.
