FNGLA is committed to lighting the path for the next generation of Florida's Horticulture industry. Below is a list of available scholarships offered through the National Horticulture Foundation and FNGLA's chapters:

James H. Davis Memorial Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: JANUARY 15 

Who Can Apply: Incoming freshman, sophomore, junior, senior planning to attend a community college, college, university or other program in Florida.

About: The James H. Davis Memorial Scholarship fund was created to encourage students to pursue careers in Florida’s horticulture industry and related pursuits by providing financial assistance for undergraduate, or other advanced education programs in Florida. The intent is to provide career paths for qualified students in need of financial support to gain expertise and experience, earn post high school degrees and become active members and leaders in the horticulture industry.

Eligibility: Applicant must be an incoming freshman, sophomore, junior, senior planning to attend a community college, college, university or other program in Florida. The student must enroll full-time in a horticulture program or related field with the intent to graduate in that field. A 2.0 (C) or above grade point average is required of the applicant. Scholarships are based on financial need. Award recipients are eligible to reapply for scholarship annually.

National Horticulture Foundation General Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: JANUARY 15

Who Can Apply: Incoming freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student planning to attend a community college, college, university or other post graduate program.

About: NHF's scholarship program was established to encourage undergraduate and graduate students of Horticulture/Marketing to follow a career path in the growing and marketing of foliage.

Eligibility:  Applicant must be an incoming freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student planning to attend a community college, college, university or other post graduate program. The student must enroll full-time in a horticulture program or related field with the intent to graduate in that field. Applicant must maintain an above average grade point of 2.5. Award recipients are eligible to reapply for scholarship annually.

Bob Hoskins/Sandy McDougald Horticultural Scholarship 

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: JANUARY 15

Who Can Apply: Resident of Palm Beach, Broward, Okeechobee, Martin, St. Lucie or Indian River counties enrolling in a horticulture or related field program with a vocational school, community college, four-year university degree program, or graduate school.

About: The Bob Hoskins and Sandy McDougald Scholarship was established by the Palm Beach Chapter of the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) to commemorate the dedication, enthusiasm and many years of service contributed to the horticultural industry by Bob and Sandy. Numerous industry members have generously supported the fund to help educate each new generation of industry professionals.

Eligibility: Applicants must have resided for one year in the above listed counties and demonstrate acceptance or enrollment into a horticulture or related field with a vocational school, community college, four-year university degree program, or graduate school. Each scholarship selection is based upon academic excellence and a demonstrated desire for a career in horticulture or related fields. Must maintain a minimum cumulative unweighted grade point average of 2.5. Award recipients are eligible to reapply for a scholarship annually.

FNGLA Big Bend Chapter Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: JUNE 1

Who Can Apply: Entering freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in an accredited college or university in Florida or out of state or seeking designation as an FNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP).

About: Each year the Big Bend Chapter of the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) awards one or more scholarships to students. The scholarship program was started in 1994 to encourage students to obtain a degree in horticulture or a related field and enter the Florida horticulture and landscape industry. In 2009, scholarship opportunities were extended to persons seeking FNGLA certification.

Eligibility: Students who reside in the Big Bend area of Florida will have first priority. However, applicants are accepted from other areas. The student should be pursuing 1) A course of study at a technical center, community college or university leading to a career in Florida’s nursery and landscape industry. The student may be an entering freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in an accredited college or university in Florida or out of state.  Or 2) Designation as an FNGLA Florida Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP), an industry-recognized certification for Florida’s nursery and landscape industry. The number and amount of scholarships vary up to $3,000 depending on available chapter scholarship funds, and on the number of applications received. Students are eligible to receive the scholarship for more than one year provided the course of study is not changed and other eligibility requirements are met. Students who anticipate changing majors are discouraged from making application.

Living Legend Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: APRIL 16

Who Can Apply: Graduates of Miami-Dade County high schools entering, or currently attending, a college or university full time pursuing a degree in horticulture, landscape architecture or related field.

About: The purpose of the Living Legend Scholarship is to encourage students to pursue careers in the horticulture industry.

Eligibility:  This scholarship is open to any student entering or currently attending college or four-year college or university and is a graduate of a Miami-Dade County High School. You must be pursuing a degree in horticultural sciences, landscape architecture, or other related agricultural field. You must also have 2.5 (B) or above Grade Point Average (GPA). You may re-apply annually as long as you maintain a 2.5 GPA. You must also maintain full-time status as a student to be eligible for scholarship.

FNGLA Manasota Chapter Scholarship 

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: APRIL 27

Who Can Apply: Florida residents pursuing a career in horticulture who are enrolled as a full-time horticulture student or in a horticultural work study program.

About:  The purpose of this scholarship is to offer financial assistance to students, teachers, or others the scholarship committee may deem appropriate to benefit the horticulture industry in Florida.

Eligibility: This scholarship is open to any qualifying student with established residency in Florida, but first preference will be given to students from Sarasota, Manatee and Desoto counties. Applicants must have an interest in pursuing a career in horticulture and plan to continue to work or teach in the horticulture industry in Florida. They must be enrolled as a full-time horticulture student at an institution of higher learning recognized by the scholarship committee, or must be enrolled in a work study program that will directly benefit the horticulture industry of Florida. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $2,000. Recipients must reapply each year for continuation of the scholarship and maintain higher than a 2.0 GPA.

FNGLA Northeast Chapter Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: JANUARY 15 AND JUNE 15

Who Can Apply: Residents of St. Johns, Duval, Clay, Nassau or Baker counties who are incoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students planning to attend a community college, college, university or other post graduate program in Florida.

About: Two scholarships are offered: The FNGLA Northeast Chapter Scholarship is considered twice a year in January June. The Billy Barwald Memorial Scholarship, in honor of Billy Barwald, owner of the Flying Dragon Citrus Nursery in Jacksonville, FL is awarded to one recipient per year for their outstanding achievements in and outside the school system. This scholarship is considered only once per year in January.

Eligibility: The primary goal of the FNGLA Northeast Chapter Scholarship Fund is to support the continuing education of graduating high school seniors who will be joining a college program of study in horticulture, or related agricultural field, including agricultural education, horticultural sciences, or environmental sciences, with the intent to graduate in that field. Applicant must be a current resident in the following counties: St. Johns, Duval, Clay, Nassau, or Baker. Intended college of choice must be in the state of Florida, but not limited to the previously stated counties. They must be enrolled full-time and may be an incoming college freshman, sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student planning to attend a community college, college, university or other post graduate program Applicant must maintain a current GPA of 3.0. Award recipients are eligible to reapply for scholarship annually.

FNGLA Royal Palm Chapter's Past President Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE: MARCH 15 AND OCTOBER 15

Who Can Apply: Students whose permanent residence is in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County will have first priority.

About: The Royal Palm Chapter Scholarship Fund has been established to offer assistance to students studying horticulture or related fields.

Eligibility: Students whose permanent residence is in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County will have first priority. Up to $1,000 is awarded each spring and fall.
