Created in 1987, the National Foliage Foundation (NFF) is a nonprofit corporation organized exclusively for charitable, educational and research purposes. FNGLA administers the foundation and a board of directors oversees and approves the funding of research and educational efforts that benefit the entire foliage industry.
The goal of NFF is to organize concentrated programs that address specific problems affecting the foliage industry. Supported by sufficient funding from a large base of contributors, these programs will attract the most skilled researchers, dedicated educators and promising students. By consolidating efforts, the National Foliage strives to enhance the foliage industry.
NFF SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAM
Planning Your Educational Future
In 1996, a gift of $400,000 was given from the estate of James H. Davis, a respected tree farm owner and former member of the then Florida Nurserymen and Growers Association (FNGA). This generous gift launched an effort to provide career paths for qualified students who were in financial need. Since then other contributors have seen the same need for providing scholarships so a general scholarship fund has been created to allow graduate and non-traditional students the opportunity to apply for a scholarship.

NFF RESEARCH
Research is Making a Difference - One of the primary objectives of the National Foliage Foundation (NFF) is to fund research projects that have potential for enhancing development of the foliage industry and increasing enjoyment of plants used indoors. The use of funds set aside for this purpose is the responsibility of the Board of Directors. All research proposals pertaining to foliage plant production or utilization will be considered for funding. The Foundation desires to fund research projects in areas of production, distribution, marketing and utilization of foliage plants.
- Production focuses on methods to improve plant quality and longevity, as well as development of greater diversity of products
- Distribution focuses on the development of better shipping and storage methods that will preserve plant quality and longevity.
- Marketing focuses on the better understanding of purchasing motivation of consumers and methods of increasing demand for foliage products.
- Utilization includes finding new ways to improve plant longevity indoors, maintain quality and provide care that’s not in conflict with environmental standards.
NFF is also proud to support FNGLA’s Research Priorities in the selection of annual grants.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP PROGRAM
Taking Research to the Next Level
In December 2006, NFF transferred a portion of the foundation’s principle to the University of Florida Foundation and will received a 50% match of Florida state funds in 2008 which will allow the NFF to support a graduate student whose time and efforts will focus specifically on foliage research.
The NFF board will serve as an advisory committee and with the direction and supervision of the head of the environmental horticulture department. The National Foliage Foundation will be able to offer the foliage industry, dedicated-foliage research, on a yearly basis.
More details to come.

Customizing Your Contribution
Once a contribution reaches the $5,000 level, it will become a named endowment. Customize your support to the National Foliage Foundation by specifying whether your contribution should enhance research grants or student scholarships.
The National Foliage Foundation will then direct those funds to the designated areas. A gift may be given as a cash contribution or pledge. As a 501 (c) (3) organization, all contributions made to the National Foliage Foundation are tax deductible.
