Public Relations Programs

Promoting the image, quality, value and professionalism of Florida’s Environmental Horticulture Industry and positioning FNGLA and its members as the recognized leaders, FNGLA works to build and strengthen alliances for FNGLA and its members through a variety of programs and efforts!

  • FNGLA’s Children’s Garden at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival
Since 1999, FNGLA has partnered with Walt Disney World at its Flower Festival. During the 10 ½ week festival, FNGLA calls upon its army of members and certified professionals as volunteers in the Growing Future Gardeners garden areaIn this area, FNGLA and Walt Disney World horticulture team transform the area into a wealth of  gardening fun, inspiring gardeners of all ages!  With fun and intriguing elements such as a bamboo fort, a turf picnic table, unique topiary heads, a pizza garden, a veggie boat, a topiary petting zoo and play structures mingled into a tropical garden, we’re certain to excite and educate guests about plants in the hopes that they return home to make an investment in their outdoor areas.

  • Arbor Day
In an effort to celebrate trees and National Arbor Day, FNGLA makes trees and educational materials available to schools across the state. The trees are used by the schools to host a tree-planting ceremony in conjunction with National Arbor Day – the last Friday each April.

  • Florida Plants of the Year
Since 1998, FNGLA has administered the Florida Plants of the Year promotional program highlighting selected plants and promoting them to garden centers, consumers and media throughout the state and nation with the intent of creating enthusiasm centered around gardening and highlighting ideal plants suited for Florida gardens.

  • GrowSmart!  Campaign
To help spread the message of water conservation during unusually dry conditions, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) have teamed up with GrowSmart!-- a public awareness campaign that encourages water-wise landscaping and promotes the use of "the right plant for the right place” and other Florida-friendly landscaping principles!

  • Economic Impact Study
Funded jointly by the Farm Credit Associations of Florida and the Florida Nursery, Growers & Landscape Association (FNGLA), this landmark study measures the economic value of various segments of Florida's nursery and landscape industry. For the first time, sales and employment data for all of Florida’s 67 counties are included. This study also captures hurricane-related lost sales and structural damage figures for both 2004 and 2005.  The Economic Impact Study is funded every four years to provide the industry with an always-current perspective into the industry’s economic standings.

  • Online Consumer Education
Partnering with the University of Florida – IFAS, FNGLA supports www.solutionsforyourlife.org as an ideal online venue for educating Florida’s consumers about Florida’s unique gardening challenges.  Through the site, the University of Florida offers research-based assistance, information and advice to Florida’s gardeners and can even link users to the wealth of local extension services that are available for their area of the state.

  • FNGLA Promotional Brochures
FNGLA promotes the use of plants through a selection on brochures at both the consumer and industry level: the Benefits of Plants brochure brings statistics and beneficial facts to light, our Water Brochure explain steps one can take to conserve water in the garden area, and the Think Green, Live Green brochure discusses the benefits of utilizing plants in interior settings. These brochures are used by many to educate consumers and the extended industry about plants and their advantages.

  • Children’s Promotions
FNGLA sees immense value in educating Florida’s youth about the environmental, personal and economic value of plants.  With this in mind, FNGLA has available stickers and bookmarks which are used by FNGLA staff, FNGLA chapters and FNGLA members at a variety of events throughout the state.

  • Exposure to the Industry’s Garden Writers
FNGLA has worked to build relations with the Garden Writers Association as well as many members of Florida’s Home and Garden media. FNGLA participates in the GWA annual symposium and is quick to respond to writers requests for photos and grower contacts for many of Florida’s unique plant items. FNGLA’s goal is to make it easy for Garden Writers in the US to feature Florida plants and items!
