FNGLA CERTIFICATION ELIGIBILITY |

General Eligibility |
|
Each FNGLA certification program has specific eligibility requirements that applicants must meet in order to sit for the exam. However, the following are requirements for ALL certifications: |

Specific Eligibility for FNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) |
|
The FCHP program is designed for persons working in the horticulture industry or those studying to enter the field. You must meet ONE of the following criteria. Because the FCHP program is designed as a base certification for all of FNGLA’s industry certification, you may petition the FNGLA Certification Committee to be considered for this program. |

Have been employed in Florida's horticulture industry for 90 days prior to application |

|
Student in an accredited horticulture program (or graduated within the preceding 18 months) |

Instructor of horticulture |

Member of the Florida Nursery, Growers & Landscape Association (FNGLA). |

Specific Eligibility for FNGLA Certified Landscape Technician (FCLT) |
|
The FCLT program is designed for employees of landscape contracting, maintenance or design build firms, as well as government agencies, parks departments and developers. The FCLT program is designed to promote and recognize professionalism among landscape technicians who work in the field, but are not involved in the business management side of the landscape operation. You must meet the following criteria: |
|
Have a minimum of one year professional experience in the horticulture/landscape industry prior to application. |
|
Must successfully complete and maintain FCHP certification, the core horticultural requirement for FCLT. |
|
Specific Eligibility for FNGLA Certified Landscape Contractor (FCLC) |
|
The FCLC program is designed for owners and managers of landscape contracting, maintenance or design build firms, as well as government agencies, parks departments and developers. You must meet the following criteria: |
|
Have a minimum of three years' professional work experience in the horticulture/landscape industry, with at least one of the year's experience in Florida. |
|
Must successfully complete and maintain FCHP certification, the core horticultural requirement for FCLC. |
|
Specific Eligibility for FNGLA Certified Landscape Designer (FCLD) |
|
The FCLD program is designed for professionals in landscape design firms, as well as landscape designers in government agencies. You must meet the following criteria: |
|
Have a minimum of two years' professional landscape design experience prior to application.
In addition, within 30 days of your application submit the following: |
|

A landscape plan, for a job that has been installed, with all included materials and plant specifications. The plan may be for a residence, business or commercial establishment, industrial or governmental project, or other suitable project that demonstrates the applicant's professional capabilities. Educational assignments will not fulfill these criteria. Graphics (hand drawn or computer generated) must be rendered by the applicant. |

Design intent statement (including information on existing site conditions, client needs or problems, design concept, budget, zone hardiness information, etc) |

|
Before and/or after photographs (preferably both) of all or part of the site |

|
Three (3) client letters of reference (include client name and contact information on application) |
|

BEFORE YOU APPLY |
|
The FNGLA online certification application is a five step process. Please be prepared to with all the information you will need before beginning to complete the application. Applicants for all certifications must complete the first part of the application, listing home and work contact information, as well as your legal and preferred name. You will also be asked to provide information on your work history (past employer dates and addresses) and educational background. If you are self employed or applying for the landscape design certification, you will also be asked to complete the "References and Clients" section of the application. In addition, as part of your application process for the landscape design certification, your plan submittal is due a minimum of 30 days prior to your exam. |

$35.00/exam-section for FNGLA non-members |

THE APPLICATION |
|

AFTER YOU APPLY |
|
Once you apply for the FNGLA online certification exam, you will receive an automatic e-mail notifying you that your application has been received. Once it is approved, you will receive an e-mail providing you with your candidate ID to log onto your exam. This process normally takes less than a week for credit card payments and up to 30 days for check payments. |
|
You must complete all written sections of the FNGLA online certification exam within 60 days of your approval date. Please mind the time available to you for exam completion. You will be required to reapply and submit additional fees if your time period expires. |
