FCLMT

FNGLA Certified Landscape Maintenance Technician

 

What is it?

FNGLA's Certified Landscape Maintenance Technician (FCLMT) program is designed to measure the skills of practicing landscape maintenance technicians. This program serves as a means to train employees, recognize their achievement and raise the standards of working professionals within Florida's landscape industry.

FCLMT is offered as a stand-alone certification and marketed to the landscape industry as an employee training, recognition and advancement program. This certification relies heavily on the green industries best management practices.

FCLMT certification is valid for a three-year period. During that time, an FCLMT is required to earn 15 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in order to renew.

Requirements

FCLMT is designed for employees of landscape maintenance firms, as well as state, county & municipal governments, parks & recreation departments and land & home developers.

Those qualified to sit for the FCMLT exam must have a minimum of 1 year experience in Florida's horticulture/landscape industry. Applicants must have completed either the Best Management Practices course or the FNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) exam.

Training

Applicants for the FCLMT exam can take advantage of a variety of hands-on training options around the state. Training can also be offered in-house with a review conducted by the FNGLA member company hosting the exam. Employers conducting in-house training for their staff are encouraged to utilize the BMP Manual from the Department of Environmental Protection, the FCHP Manual from FNGLA as well as the FNGLA Landscape Certification Study Guide for Maintenance.

Manual

The FNGLA Landscape Certification Study Guide for Maintenance is a useful study guide for the FCLMT exam. It will provide information on the specifications and procedures used in completing the field exams for the FCLMT exam. Available in November 2011.

Testing

FCLMT testing is offered at two test sites. Candidates must pass a comprehensive 8-part field exam to earn the FCLMT designation.

Current test sites are:

  • Atlantis Resorts, Nassau, Bahamas on February 23, 2012
  • SeaWorld Horticulture, Orlando, Florida on April 14, 2012

About the Exam

Exam Sections
FNGLA's FCLMT exam is a one-day exam encompassing of 8 field exam sections. FCLMT field exam section must be passed with a minimum 70% in order to earn the FCLMT certification.

  • appropriate weather protection.

Exam Fees
The 2012 exam fee for the 9-part field exam is $200 for FNGLA members and $350 for non-members. The exam fee is good for one exam attempt only. Any exam section that is not completed successfully may be retaken at the next regularly scheduled exam, once the applicant applies for a retest and pays a retest fee. The cost per section for a retest is $25 for FNGLA members and $40 for non-members. Discounts are provided for multiple applicants from the same company. Contact FNGLA for more information.

Exam fees cover all field exams, including plant material, supplies and equipment required. Lunch, snacks and refreshments are also provided. You must provide your own safety equipment, calculators, and writing utensils. Manuals and training sessions require an additional fee.

Renewal/Recertification

FNGLA's FCLMT certification is valid for a three-year period. During that time, FCLMTs are required to earn 15 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in order to renew. If you hold more than one certification, these CEUs will apply to all certifications you hold. In the absence of the required number of CEUs, the certified professional will be required to retake the exam. Renewal is $60 for FNGLA members and $90 for non-members for the three-year certification period.
