What is FWS-AP?

FWS-AP helps industry professionals and government employees across Florida increase their water conservation knowledge through training and testing. FNGLA works with Florida’s Water Management Districts throughout the state on this comprehensive water conservation program. FWS-AP has two designations: Landscape and Irrigation. Applicants can choose to test for one or both distinctions.

  • Trains professionals to create landscapes which qualify for FWS Certified homes.
  • Focuses on Florida-friendly LandscapeTM alternatives and irrigation design – which can have a major impact on water usage.
  • Targets landscape and irrigation professionals.
  • Valid for a three-year period. Requires 15 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to maintain this certification.

The Florida Water Star technical manual is free and available online.

Training

Training is required and offered by Florida’s Water Management Districts at various times throughout the year. See upcoming testing dates here.  

Testing

FWS-AP testing is offered online and is available only after training has been completed, or to renew your FWS-Accredited Professional designation.

About the FWS-AP Exam

Upon completion of FWS-AP training, applicants then pass a comprehensive written exam to demonstrate knowledge of landscape and irrigation design principles. There is an exam for each distinction, so applicants can choose to sit for one or both the Landscape and/or Irrigation distinctions.

Applicants must pass the exam with a minimum 80%.

  • $50 for FNGLA members and $60 for nonmembers
