Frequently Asked Questions

Apprentices start working when they enter an apprenticeship, with wage increases as they advance in their knowledge, skills, and abilities. This is how apprenticeship is different from other types of work-based training.

There is no cost to the apprentice to apply for, or participate in, FNGLA’s Nursery & Landscape Apprenticeship Program.

The Apprenticeship Certification earned through this registered apprenticeship program is recognized nationwide. In addition, apprentices have the option to earn any of FNGLA’s industry-recognized professional certifications, including: FNGLA’s Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP), Landscape Technician (FCLT), Landscape Maintenance Technician (FCLMT) and/or Landscape Irrigation Service Technician (FCLIST).

Apprentices who have already earned FNGLA’s Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) designation prior to entering the program are exempt from the 144 hours of Related Technical Instruction requirement. Apprentices advance directly to the on-the-job training aspect of the program.
